Colourful buttons

In this day and age of modern technology, we feel out of place or so to say get bored when we are not part of the in-crowd. We should be in possession of the latest technology, know the latest word in trend, get the latest fashion, in other words, we tend to go with the flowand eventually accept what the world offers us. What if modern life snatches us away from God? Then snap out of it quickly! Sad to say we look at the world from a virtual point of view or in other words, a non-existent world. People, young and old are  entangled in this virtual life. I still remember this young lady was engrossedin her mobile phone, oblivious to the car honking at her to move away. What are our priorities? Life continues, modern advancements take

place but a life without Christ is meaningless. I believe if we do not prioritize God in our lives, we are on the wrong path. When we are in a right relationship with God, we will, no, doubt, be in harmony with people as well.

You missed out on a happening concert ? You could not afford the latest technology ? That is all fine. Question is what if we missed out an opportunity with God? That is NOT fine at all. Do I spend one-tenth of my time with God ?

It is a colourful, modern life. As a child, I went to Iewduh (a huge traditional market place), I looked intriguingly at a big glass jar containing colourful buttons. I remember clearly, those colourful buttons took me a different lost world. But strangely, I don’t knowwhere? The colourful buttons pulled me near, so much so that I did not realise my hand had slipped away from my mother’s.The fascination of modern life, the endless social engagement it doles out, we get lost in a strange world and we hardly realised that our hand has slipped away from God.

There are many colourful buttons that tend to fill our lives, but in the end they choke us. Our lives are empty. We wonder where to wander, squander our souls as we look for colourful buttons.Relationships crumble, families break and it becomes daunting task tokeep up the Christian faith. That is because we are drawn to colourful buttons. They become too irresistible.God in his loving compassion never fails to call us day in and dayout. He is the God, as Psalm 121 describes “Indeed, He who watchesover Israel will neither slumber nor sleep”. If God calls, never delay to respond to His call, God’s colourful buttons are different from the ones the world offers.

A Christian should be on his knees and yield to the Holy Spirit – 1Thessalonians 5:19 “Do not quench the spirit”. Even when in doubt, God has a number, Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know”.As Christians, we should remember, there is the enemy, who is jealous of a happy home, who breaks the relationship between God and humans and he never stops showing us the worldly colourful buttons again and again.  Against this evil one, God through his son Jesus Christ empowers Christians.

2 Timothy 4:18 “The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack andwill bring me safely to his Heavenly Kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen”.
